Bad news about MBV

Not to burst anyone's bubble here, but I have some bad news. I just joined this tribe, by the way...
Anyway, a close, reliable friend ran into Colm (ex-drummer of mbv) in San Francisco VERY recently. My friend had the luxury of talking with Colm over some brew in a bar.
Here is the skinny:

1. There is no new MBV. Anything to the contrary is rumor.
2. Colm hasn't spoken to Kevin in several years, thus no new collaboration or new material.
3. There is no boxset likely. Colm had not even heard about that Pitchfork.com article. Sounds like another hoax (aren't we used to them by now!)

sorry about the badnews. Sounds like Kevin is probaby more interested in working with Bobby and the Primal Scream kids.
Looks like it's back to the drawing board for us!

Nah... It is not too surprising really. I have been experiencing this kind of news since about 1993... nothing new.

For a quick mbv-sound-alike-fix, check out the band Guitar on Morr music. CD is called "sunkissed"
That will get you going for a while!

        Or the Swirlies
or All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors
        or the Lily's
or the countless bands theyve influenced.

Maybe Colm in SF was an impostor and was taking your homie for a ride?

Yea, I wish he was an imposter, but my friend would have figured it out. I think he quizzed Colm pretty heavily as well!

My band in SF played at the Elbo Room on Valencia a dozen times or so before our drummer discovered, over casual conversation, that "Colm the sound guy" used to be "Colm the drummer" from MBV.

Yes, Colm was working as the sound engineer at the Elbo Room, and I believe still is. If you go to a show there you probably have a 50/50 chance of seeing him.

Yeah, I love FSA. First heard them while having a drink at Noc Noc in San Francisco (miss that place), and was moved to ask the bartender who they were. Start of a wonderful friendship, as they say.

I've always liked Lovesliescrushing, a band out of Arizona, formerly signed to Projekt Recs. As far as I know, they've put out 2 cds with very much that MBV/early Slowdive sound. Hey, and what about Medicine, the "American MBV"? Or am I insulting everyone's sensibilities here? I'm just a newbie, so I don't know. If need be, you may spank me for my transgressions.

Have you heard Clear Horizon? I heard this the other day. Apparently it is Dave Pearce from FSA with Jessica Bailif (sp?) singing. She is on kranky. It is a beautiful record. Sounds just like "Further" period FSA...

i'm fantasizing that the US public will keep (re)discovering MBV until a big reissue finally happens, and then they will be offered $$$ to reform and do a US tour which will turn into a world tour...

      mbv need more fan sites
mbv needs to be remixed by the neptunes

I t was posted a bit back, but Jessamine has been defunct for a few years. Some former members are in Fontanelle, who are not nearly as good in my opinion.
