was at a club called Bogart's in Long Beach in '87 or '88. I'll never forget it. I was working at KSPC Pomona College at the time, and my friend and fellow DJ Franklin Bruno borrowed his parent's Cadillac and off we went to this club in the middle of a mall, right next to this country bar complete with mechanical bulls, urban cowboys and cowgirls and all. Talk about a culture clash.
Anyway, this band from SF called the Sneetches (early Jellyfish members) opened up with their brand of 80's era Game theory style pop, and then on next was MBV. Man, I wish I had invested in a pair of earplugs that night. They were fucking incredible! It must have been like seeing The Jesus and Mary Chain during their first US tour, which I missed because my friends neglected to tell me they were playing. Wish I had seen them after Loveless came out, but I never got the chance; too busy trying to find the non-existant holy grail of rock elsewhere. Still looking for it...
