Wasnt that 91? I wish I wouldve saw that tour. I saw them in Hollywood with Yo La Tengo and Buffalo Tom(?). Apparently that was their last show to date.

I could talk about MBV/shoegaze forever...

I never got to see them live. How in gods name did they reproduce their sound live?? Especially "Loveless". That album is SO thick with layers...

They didnt. Some of it sounded cool while some of it was noisy and lame but it was still cool since it was MBV...

I don't think Ecstasy and wine is out of print anymore...Or for some reason, there has been a recent influx of copies in the marketplace. I see it all the time on ebay and even in local stores here in Dallas. It shouldn't be hard to find now and not too expensive, either.

Me mind is a bit rusty but here's a go...Summer of '91 at the Ritz in NYC with Pavement and Superchunk opening.

Also, anyone interested in a live recording of MBV @ The Roxy in LA? The source is audio cassette and the recording is marginal. The tour was to support "Loveless"

I have a bootleg CD named Loom which is recorded in Vancouver 1992. It doesn't sound very good but it is pretty cool anyway. The freaky guitar sounds gives you an idea of how loud those concerts must have been. Lots of feedback and a sampler going nuts.

I completely lucked out ARB! Was in Manhattan looking for a gig and found a great concert. I saw them 4 times on the Loveless tour. Soooooo glad I did! What was the best one for you?

NYC, 1992 (i think - it was definitely the Loveless tour tho.)

the two things i remember most were that (1) the set was really short, less than an hour or so, and (2) almost half of it was spent by the band playing one single chord - just this one uninterrupted piece of feedback that went on for almost a half hour.

i remember being excited, then frustrated, then bored ... and then completely enthralled. i can still hear it in my mind now, twelve years later, even though there have been times when i thought i'd imagined it somehow. but Kevin Sheilds talks about it in this 1993 interview from Guitar World, so i guess it really happened:

"The lengthy feedback barrage at the end of My Bloody Valentine's concerts does seem like it's causing permanent neurological damage.
JM: [to Kevin] Yeah, I didn't like that part of your show when I first saw it, 'cause it was only around 12 minutes. It didn't last long enough! But later on, when I saw you headline a show, it lasted 20 minutes.
KS: Once we did it for 40 minutes.

"Was there anybody left in front of the stage by the end?
KS: No, half the audience left. But we had to try it. It is better longer; it only works because it's so long. 'Cause after a while you lose all perspective.
JM: That's when you start hearing something."

I saw them twice in the early '90s. The show with Yo La Tengo and Buffalo Tom at the Warfield, and about a year after that at Slim's. The Slim's show was one of the loudest shows I've ever been to in my life.

Wow, memories coming back. I saw MBV early on at Berkeley Square (duh, and no longer there: it's a furniture store now ;-( ) with about 15-20 people in the audience. Shitty P.A., but still an amazing show. Later caught them while travelling in OHIO, at Columbus State, with Dinosaur Geritol headlining. MBV blew one side of the P.A. out, and Mascis was too stoned to realize 'til halfway through their set; it was pretty funny.

Now that I'm older and decrepit, I wish I'd worn earplugs to more gigs when I was younger-- My audiologist says the 65% hearing loss in my left ear will never return. My coworkers get quite consternated w/me.

**Seriously, I highly endorse Hearos for audience as well as players. Very little signal range loss, but worth it for the future. Plug over.**

Still, it was worth it for the Big Brown, Dinosaur at Green Street in Boston, early Mogwai and of course the mighty MBV shows I was lucky, and reckless enough, to experience.

BTW, for anyone who cares, the SF music world is moving again now that all the dot com kiddies are bust and living back in their parents basements in Illinois. Lots of good shows booked, an arts and lit scene worth mention, et al. Stratford 4 for president; we could do worse (oh wait, we did...)
